Hero & Zero of the Week PDF Print E-mail

We'll stay with the Olympics for two more Hero(s) of the week.   Steven Holcomb lead the US Bobsled team to their first Gold Medal in SIXTY years!    And him and his team were on the Letterman show last night, they even did the Top 10 list!     He's the 'Co-Hero' with Canadian Figure-Skater Joannie Rochette, who captivated most of the Viewing audience with her amazing Silver-Medal performance---just after her Mom had passed away.     Two MALE sportscasters said on TV they were teary watching her.    It seems like in every Olympics  there is some kind of wild story in Olympic Figure Skating--especially with the Women's Competition.  This year there was a positive story!
BOTH the Men's and Women's Hockey had the 'dream' Finals, with USA and Canada meeting in the Finals. Even though the 'wrong' team won both Gold Medals, both were awesome Tournaments.     Clearly the 2 best teams in the Finals, and while I definitely wanted the US to win, I'd guess winning the Gold Medals meant more to the 'Home' team, especially the Men's game, as it was said that some believed the entire Olympics would have been a failure if the US had won the Men's Final.   However both Tournaments were marred a little by Organizations  The NHL and IOC share the 'award' for the ZERO of the Week.      The IOC issued a 'reprimand' of the Canadian Women's team because they celebrated on the Ice with Beer, Champagne, and Cigars, (YES, CIGARS!!)       There were NO fans left in the Arena, the girls were not causing trouble OR taunting the opposition.  They were just celebrating harmlessly.    As for the Men's Tournament, the NHL, fresh off the best 2 weeks of Hockey seen at least since the NHL Playoffs, have now voiced concern about shutting their league down for 2 weeks for the Olympics.     Yeah, that's a good idea, why let your players compete in the most watched Hockey Tournament all year?!    And with the Olympics ending Sunday night, they had a game MONDAY night!    Sometimes you wonder who plans this stuff.

Happy Weekend to all.     Here's hoping UNC, against heavy odds, adds to their amazing win streak over Duke in Hansbrough Hall!!
