Hero & Zero of the Week PDF Print E-mail

For the HERO of the Week, how 'bout Nationals Pitcher Miguel Batista?!     Tuesday night, a bunch of fans, (WAAAY more than usual) went to the Nats game because Steven Strasburg was supposed to pitch.    However Strasburg had a bad shoulder, and a last minute decision was made to hold him out of the lineup.   Miguel Batista took his place, and was booed by the HOME fans, before he'd even thrown a pitch!   He pitched a decent game, and was gracious about it afterwards.   He said he understood the fans reaction, that it was like expecting Miss America and getting Miss Iowa.    Then either he realized or someone told him he had insulted Iowa and their beauty pageant winner, so he made a public apology----AND sent flowers to Miss Iowa!     Maybe he saw a picture of her----she's definitely worth sending flowers to!!

For the ZERO, we'll choose Cowboys ROOKIE receiver Dez Bryant.   I emphasize 'Rookie' because as a first year player he is supposed to do 'certain things'.  Okay, some of this hazing can get out of line, no reason to tie him up to the goalpost and throw stuff at him while he is blindfolded.    But a veteran receiver asked Dez to carry his luggage---and Dez flatly refused!    I wonder what Dean Smith would have thought of that.    Freshman were ALWAYS last on the 'ranking', getting water after everyone else, stuff like that.   And I imagine a lot of teams do things like that.   However evidently Dez is too good for that.   NOT the best way for a Rookie to break onto a team and be respected by his teammates.

Happy weekend to all.
